Inlet Protection

Inlet protection is a temporary sediment control practice used to prevent debris, sediment, and pollutants from entering storm drains during construction. Common solutions include Big Red, Dandy Bags and Sacks, gravel bags, filter fabric inserts, and other manufactured devices placed around or inside inlets. These measures slow down runoff and trap sediment at the source, protecting downstream infrastructure and water quality. Inlet protection is especially important in areas with exposed soil and high runoff potential, and it complements perimeter controls as part of a broader erosion and sediment control plan.
